Iranian foreign minister Ali-Akbar Salehi will visit Libya soon, Mehr reported quoting Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast as saying on Wednesday.

Mehmanparast did not give further information about the exact date and motivation of Salehi's visit to Libya.

Salehi sent a message to the new leaders of Libya to congratulate the Muslim nation on the death of former leader Muammar al-Qaddafi and the total liberation of their country, reported FNA on Tuesday.

In a message addressed to Libya's interim leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil, Salehi said he hoped the Libyan people would exercise their sovereignty by forming "a ruling system based on religious populism while preserving the independence and stability of the country with no influence or interference by foreign forces".

Qaddafi, the former leader of Libya who fled into hiding after revolutionary forces toppled his regime two months ago, was killed on October 20 by revolutionary forces.
