General economic situation in Azerbaijan (January-November 2014)

A total volume of Azerbaijan's GDP amounted to 53.7 billion AZN in January-November 2014 or by 2.2 percent (1.2 billion AZN) more than in the same period of 2013, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report said.

It is reported that the nominal GDP growth amounted to 1.8 percent.

GDP per capita increased by 0.9 percent and made up 5710.7 AZN ($7281.3) in January-November, the report said.

Some 60.2 percent was formed in the field of production during this period, which is 0.3 percent less than in the same period of 2013.

The value added share generated in industry makes up 42.6 percent, construction - 12.6 percent, agriculture, forestry and fishery - 5.1 percent. Some 32.5 percent of gross output was generated in the service sector.

Net taxes on products and imports amounted to 3.932 billion AZN or 7.3 percent of Azerbaijan's GDP.

Around 7.9 percent of GDP in the sector of services accounted for trade and repair of vehicles, 4.85 percent - transport and warehousing, 2.12 percent - tourist accommodation and catering sphere, 1.8 percent - the information and communication services, 15.8 percent - social and other services.

The non-oil sector of the economy increased by 6.5 percent compared to the same period of 2013. Its share in GDP increased up to 59.8 percent. The volume of value added production in the oil and gas extraction and processing decreased by 3.4 percent.

The volume of value added production in Azerbaijan`s construction sector increased by 8.6 percent, tourist accommodation and catering - 16.8 percent, information and communication services - 14.2 percent, trade and repair of vehicles - 9.5 percent, transport and warehousing - 4.9 percent, social and other services - 4.3 percent in January-November 2014 compared to the same period of 2013.

Gross production in agriculture, forestry and fishery decreased by 2.9 percent, while by 3.2 percent in the industry.

The total industrial production volume (the volume of produced goods and rendered industrial services ) amounted to 29.8 billion AZN in Azerbaijan in January-November 2014, which is 1.5 percent less than in the same period of 2013.

Azerbaijan's non-oil sector during this period showed a 6.6 percent growth, oil sector - reduced by 3 percent compared to the same period of 2013.

During the reporting period, the volume of production in the mining industry exceeded 21 billion AZN with a weight of 70.4 percent of the entire industrial production, which is 2.6 percent less than in the same period of 2013.

Oil production volume amounted to 38.38 million tons, while natural gas production - 17.03 billion cubic meters in January-November 2014. Oil production declined by 2.9 percent, while gas production increased by 5.3 percent compared to the same period of 2013.

The volume of production in the manufacturing industry amounted to 7 billion AZN (23.5 percent of total industrial output) for the first eleven months of this year or by 2 percent more than in the same period of 2013. The growth in the processing industry was observed in the production of vehicles - by 3.3 times, tobacco - by 83 percent, jewelry, music, sports and medical equipment - by 90 percent, the repair and installation of machinery and equipment - 47.4 percent, the production of motor vehicles and trailers - 48.7 percent, clothing - by 65 percent, chemical industry - 28.3 percent, building material production - 19.8 percent, etc.

The Azerbaijani metallurgical industry produced products and rendered services worth 376.3 million AZN in January-November 2014. The production volume in the metallurgical industry increased by 7.2 percent, whilst finished metal products - by 10.4 percent during this period.

According to the State Statistics Committee, Azerbaijan increased gold production by 11.9 percent in January-November 2014, reducing the silver production by 62.2 percent. Around 1916.2 kilograms of precious metals (including 166.2 kg in November) were produced in January-November or by 9.5 percent less than their production during the same period of 2013. The production was 1684.3 kg of gold (159 kg in November) and 231.9 kg of silver (7.2 kg) in January-November.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the Azerbaijani trading networks sold consumer goods to the population at 19.239 billion AZN in January-November 2014, which is 9.5 percent more than in the same period of 2013. Legal entities ensured 11.7 percent of trade turnover, individual entrepreneurs - 51.4 percent, fairs and markets - 36.7 percent.

According to the State Statistics Committee, in November 2014, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs on services increased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous month and by 1.5 percent in January-November compared to the same period of 2013.

Thus, inflation in Azerbaijan, which is one of the indices of macroeconomic stability, hit only 1.5 percent.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the nominal income of the population totaled 33.627 billion AZN in January-November 2014, which is 4.7 percent more compared to January-November 2013.

Thus, during this period, the nominal income of the population per capita increased by 3.4 percent and hit 3573,3 AZN.

As of Dec. 1, 2014, some 28,900 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 39.6 percent women.

Thus, the number of unemployed has decreased by 20.17 percent since early 2014. As of January 1, 2014, some 36,206 people were registered as unemployed.

The foreign trade turnover with 147 world countries amounted to $28.83 billion in January-November 2014, or 9.13 percent less than in January-November 2013. The volume of exports decreased by 5.82 percent and amounted to $20.71 billion compared to January-November 2013. The volume of import decreased by 16.61 percent and amounted to $8.11 billion. Azerbaijan exported 2,084 goods and imported 5,984 different goods.

As of January-November 2014, the nominal index of export exceeded import. This formed the foreign trade surplus to the amount of over $12.6 billion.

The country's foreign trade surplus amounted to $12.26 billion for the same period of 2013 and $767.18 million as of November 2014.

The agricultural output at current prices amounted to 4.932 billion AZN in Azerbaijan in January-November, decreasing by 2.9 percent compared to the same period of 2013, according to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report as of 11 months.

According to the report, livestock production increased by 3 percent, crop production decreased by 8.1 percent for the period.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, around 14.693 billion AZN was invested from all financial sources in the development of the economic and social areas of Azerbaijan in January-November 2014, which is by 0.3 percent more than in the same period of 2013. It indicates sustainable investment activity in the country.

In particular, around 1.473 billion AZN were invested in the Azerbaijani economy in November 2014, which is by 2 percent less than investments in fixed assets in November 2013.

The exchange rate of AZN remained stable. In November 2014, the average rate of AZN to the U.S. dollar was 0.78 AZN per dollar, to euro - 0.98 AZN per euro, to Russian rouble - 1.71 AZN per 100 rouble.
