Georgian MPs Offer to Announce Yuriy Luzhkov Persona Non Grata

Georgia Materials 9 June 2008 16:50 (UTC +04:00)

Georgia, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N.Kirtskhalia / Nika Rurua, the Georgian MP, offered to announce Yuriy Luzhkov, the mayor of Moscow, persona non grata. The Moscow City Administration always makes anti-Georgian statements, Rurua told to journalists.

Luzhkov urged Georgia to recognize the independency of Sukhumi and Tskhinvali, and he also stated that 'these no kindred nations to Georgians' will gain independence anyway, but Georgia could simplify this process. In 2004, Luzhkov also stated that Adjariya was not the Georgian territory, but after running away of Aslan Abashidze, a former head of the autonomy, Moscow provided refuge to him.

According to Rurua, there are a lot of supporters of Luzhkov's initiatives in the Georgian Parliament. "The Moscow Mayor, who is not a political figure, is a 'speaking-trumpet' of the Kremlin and reads the messages, which are sent by Official Moscow," he said.
