The construction of a new section of highway Ruiz-Agar was launched in Georgia. The laying of the new section was attended by Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ramaz Nikolaishvili and the Ambassador of China.
The Chinese side will finance the project, which involves the reconstruction of 19-km section. Some 11 km of road will be converted into four lane road, and 8 km will be a completely new way to bypass Agar.
Some 19-kilometer section of Ruiz-Agar is the first stage of construction of the highway Ruiz-Ricotti. Some 1500 local residents are engaged in the construction.
As the prime minister said, the construction of new roads not only provides infrastructure improvements and partially solves the problem of employment, but also provide public safety. "Recent studies show that the number of accidents decreased dramatically in Georgia after the construction of highways," he said.
