Georgia’s President reinstates pardoned governor Tengiz Gunava

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili reinstated Tengiz Gunava pardoned by him as the governor of Samegrelo - Zemo Svaneti. He introduced the governor that has returned to his post to the province representatives on Thursday.
Saakashvili said he made the decision based on the fact that Gunava "was convicted unjustly."
"This man was sent to prison unjustly, due to accounting blunder. Prior to that, they planted him weapons and drugs, but after this attempt had failed, and no one was punished, Gunava still got arrested," he stressed.
Saakashvili said he trusts the governor, adding that the latter will be doing his work with dignity as previously.
Gunava was pardoned by the president on Monday. He was convicted of embezzlement of fuel to the sum of 50,000 lari.
