BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18. Georgia recorded significant increase in electricity generation in April 2022, Trend reports with the reference to the Georgian ESCO electricity market operator.

The country’s electricity generation in April 2022 amounted to 1.1 billion kWh - an increase of 33.2 percent compared to 825.4 million kWh in the same month of last year.

According to ESCO, Georgia's total electricity consumption amounted to 1.15 billion kWh, which is an increase of 15 percent compared to 1 billion kWh.

Enguri HPP generated 253 million kWh of electricity in April 2022, which is 10 times more compared to 24 million kWh in the same month of 2021.

Moreover, Georgia’s increased electricity generation has dramatically reduced the need for imports from 260 million to 70 million kWh. Azerbaijan provided less than 1 million kWh of electricity in April 2022, with the remainder coming entirely from Russia.
