EU's Ashton joins international condemnation of Koran-burning plan
The European Union foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, joined Wednesday the international chorus of condemnation of plans by a Christian pastor in the United States to burn copies of the Koran, dpa reported
Terry Jones, heading a little-known evangelical Christian church with just 50 members in Gainesville, Florida, said he would hold a 'Koran Burning Day' on Saturday, on the occasion of the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
"We strongly condemn any kind of attempt of this kind," Ashton's spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic told reporters in Brussels.
Kocijancic stressed Ashton's respect for "all kinds of religious beliefs" and indicated that "this is not the right way to go forward."
