Police officer killed, three people injured in Iraq attacks
A high-ranking police officer was killed and three people injured Wednesday in two separate attacks in central Iraq, police said, DPA reported.
The police officer was shot dead by gunmen who broke into his house in Samarra city, some some 120 kilometres north of the capital Baghdad.
In 2006, the bombing of a Shiite mosque in Samarra, a city with a Sunni majority, triggered nationwide sectarian violence that continued for around two years.
In central Baghdad on Wednesday, three people were injured when a bomb exploded near the national theatre.
