Three Katyusha rockets earlier Friday hit an area near the border between Kuwait and Iraq, causing no casualties, the Al Arabiya TV Channel reported.

Neither the Kuwaiti nor Iraqi governments have confirmed or made comments on the incident. There was also no independent claims for responsibilities, Xinhua reported.

Kuwait and Iraq have locked in a row over Kuwait's building of a port near Iraq's border which Baghdad called on the project to be suspended on the ground it affects Iraq's shipping lanes and navigation safety.

Kuwait insisted that Mubarak Al-Kabir port on the Boubyan island was on its territory and construction have been going on as planned since April, when the Gulf emirate's amir laid the foundation stone.

Building of the 1.1-billion-U.S. dollars port was part of Kuwait's ambitions to turn the desert nation into a financial hub in the Middle East.

A Hezbollah Brigade in Iraq in July warned that construction of the port, scheduled to be completed in 2016, could be targeted.

It was unclear whether the three rockets targeted the controversial port.

On Thursday, Kuwaiti foreign ministry denied reports that Iraq had summoned Kuwait ambassador to Iraq to protest an alleged violation of the safety of the Iraqi borders over the building of the port.

Relations between oil exporters Kuwait and Iraq have been shaky 20 years after Iraq's former leader Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.
