The three-member Commission of Inquiry on Syria on Friday urged world support for the UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan's diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in the country, dpa reported.

"It's the only game in town," said commission's chair Paulo Pinheiro of Brazil. "We are very happy that the UN Security Council was united in supporting Kofi Annan in its statement this week."

Pinheiro and colleagues were at UN headquarters in New York to meet with the Security Council while their investigative reports on Syria were being debated in the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Pinheiro said the commission reached the conclusion that only a negotiated settlement would bring an end to the conflict in Syria and Annan's six-point plan, focusing on a political solution, confirmed that opinion.
