( dpa )- A storm with a speed of up to 120 kilometres per hour swept large parts of Austria overnight Sunday causing considerable damage, ORF radio reported on Sunday.

The A2 motorway had to be temporarily closed in several places because the lights in several tunnels blacked out due to the damaged power lines.

In the mountains, the storms reached a speed of more than 150 kph .

Fire brigades were working non-stop.

According to meteorologists, the storms were due to continue Sunday with Vienna, the so-called Weinviertel in the north-east of Lower Austria and the northern Burgenland being worst affected.
