An Australian soldier was killed and four wounded in a clash with Taliban fighters in southern Afghanistan, the Defence Force said Monday, the dpa reported.
Australia has 1,000 soldiers serving in Oruzgan province.
"The engagement in which he died was characterized by a heavy exchange of small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades," Defence Force head Air Chief Marshall Angus Houston said.
