The driver of an armoured vehicle carrying cash stole around 715,000 dollars Wednesday in Lima after drugging two fellow guards with pills, Peruvian media reported, citing police.

According to radio station RPP, the two workers were found fast asleep inside the van. When they woke up, they reported the absence of the 38-year-old driver and the cash that they had been delivering to various automated teller machines, dpa reported.

Investigators reportedly found traces of sleeping pills in a soft drink that the driver had passed among his colleagues. The two men were receiving medical treatment in the wake of the incident.

The driver, who was being sought by police, had worked at the security firm for 10 years.
