Taiwan donates 100,000 US dollars to China's mudslide survivors

Taiwan's Red Cross has donated 100,000 US dollars to China to aid survivors of a mudslide which killed at least 1,117 people, reports said Thursday dpa reported

The Red Cross has also launched a donation campaign to raise funds for the people in Zhouqu, Gansu Province, in the centre of the country, which was hit by a mudslide caused by floods on Sunday.

"As the disaster area is far away from Taiwan, the best way to help out is to donate cash so that local authorities and aid workers can use the money to buy relief materials," the Red Cross said in a statement.

"China rushed aid to Taiwan when Taiwan was hit by mudslides during Typhoon Marokot in August last year. So we hope Taiwan people can donate money as people in Zhouqu are badly in need of outside help," the statement said.
