Eleven people were killed and three more injured after a train derailed at a construction site in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinhua reported on Saturday.

Eleven people were killed and three more injured after a train derailed at a construction site in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinhua reported on Saturday.

According to the agency, the accident occurred on Friday morning, but only on Saturday a spokesman for the region's railway department officially confirmed the number of injured, which was initially put at one, RIA Novosti reported.

The train, which derailed at 9:00 a.m. local time, was carrying stones to pave the railway.

Investigators are still trying to establish the cause of the accident at the constructed railroad, which is planned to link Inner Mongolia's Baotou to Mandalt, a border town near neighboring Mongolia.
