Peruvaian author Mario Vargas Llosa has won this year's Nobel prize for literature, the Swedish Academy announced in Stockholm on Thursday, DPA reported.
The Academy's citation said that "for his cartography of the structures of power and his trenchant images of the indiviudal's resistance, revolt, and defeat."
He was born 1936 in Arequipa in Peru, but now lives in Madrid.
Some two dozen of his works have been translated into English.
The literature prize was the fourth Nobel prize to be awarded this year.
