A moderate earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted Peshawar and most parts of northwestern Pakistan on Thursday morning, the country's meteorological department said.

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted Peshawar and most parts of northwestern Pakistan on Thursday morning, the country's meteorological department said, Xinhua reported.
  
Tremors were also felt in the capital Islamabad and several cities in central Punjab province, residents said.
  
There was no report of damage and casualty.
  
Top official of the meteorological department, Muhammad Riaz, said the earthquake shook most parts of the country including Swat valley and Hazara division and Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
  
He said the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, some 280 kilometers from Peshawar. Riaz said that the tremors lasted for about 20 seconds.
  
The official said that aftershock may be possible in the coming two days but those will be of low intensity.
  
The tremors were also felt in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and several other parts of the region.
