Germany's Merkel arrives in London for talks

German Chancellor Angela Merkel touched down in London on Saturday for an informal meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron, dpa reported.

The two were reportedly set to discuss the coming NATO summit in Lisbon and the next meeting of the world's top 20 economies (G20), scheduled to take place in Seoul on November 11-12.

Merkel landed at a military airport to the north-west of London, before being escorted to the prime minister's country seat, Chequers.

A private evening meal with the two leaders partners, Joachim Sauer and Samantha Cameron, was to be followed by political talks on Sunday.

It was unclear whether the two were to discuss the recent find of two packages containing explosive materials on US-bound flights from Yemen, discovered at airports in London and Dubai.

At a European Union summit in Brussels on Friday, Merkel managed to win agreement for a new eurozone stability pact - with the support of Britain.

In return Merkel supported Britain's call for a smaller increase in the bloc's 2011 budget.
