Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov.19

Trend:

The faction of the state Duma of the Fair Russia suggests in the Asia-Pacific region similar organization for security and cooperation in the European Union (OSCE), said the Vice-speaker of the lower house of Parliament Nikolay Levichev, RIA Novosti reported.

Relations between the Russian Federation and the West have been exacerbated by the crisis in the Ukraine. At the end of July, the EU and the US from point penalties with respect to certain individuals and organizations have moved to the measures against entire industries of the Russian economy, as well as among them, banking, defense, and energy. In response, Russia restricted imports of food items from countries that have introduced in relation to penalties: USA, EU, Canada, Australia and Norway.

Amid deteriorating relations with the West, Russia is actively developing cooperation with the East - Asia Pacific region (APR).

"I think that the Russian Federation may propose equivalent of the OSCE in the Eastern direction, at the base of, say, the same Meeting on cooperation peace and trust in Asia," said Levichev during the "government hour" in the state Duma, with the participation of the head of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. "This organization may become a tool of preventive conflict prevention in the area of the Asia-Pacific region."

The OSCE is the world's largest regional organization dealing with security issues. It unites 57 countries located in North America, Europe and Central Asia.
