Six people were confirmed killed and 17 others injured in a road accident involving a truck and three other vehicles in Nigeria's southern state of Anambra, the local road safety police said, Trend reports citing Xinhua.
The driver of the truck, laden with steel and metal objects, lost control and rammed into three other vehicles along Amawbia-Agulu road in Awka, the state capital, Andrew Kumapayi, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, told Xinhua.
The accident occurred on a very good road with no potholes, said state governor Willie Obiano who later led local officials to the accident scene to rescue victims.
"It's so unfortunate that many people lost their lives in this accident but we will ensure that the injured persons get adequate treatment," he told reporters.
Local police said the cause of the accident will be further investigated.
