Gen. Hayri Kyvykoglu, Chief Commander of Turkish Land Troops, today visited Turkish regions bordering Syria where he acquainted with the position of troops, news channel CNN Turk reported.
Since the demonstrations in Syria took start, Turkish armed forces deployed at the border with that country several times were put on alert as Syrian troops continued to concentrate in the same area.
Syrian military units, including tanks approached the area 500 meters of the borderline.
At an emergency meeting at the Arab League Cairo Headquarters earlier, the Arab League Foreign Ministers decided to suspend the participation of Syrian delegation's work in the League in connection with the continuing violence. In addition, the Arab League urged its member states to recall ambassadors from Damascus and threatened to impose economic and political sanctions against Syria.
