Turkey to announce tender to build high-speed railway

A tender for construction of a high-speed railway will be announced in Turkey, a source in the country’s Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend.

The source noted that the tender for the construction of the high-speed railway, which will unite such Turkish provinces as Malatya, Elazig and Diyarbakir, will be held on Nov. 12.

“It is planned that the length of the high-speed railway will be 121 kilometers,” the source said.

At the same time, the source didn’t disclose the cost of the project, but said that local and foreign companies can take part in the tender.

Currently, the length of high-speed railway lines in Turkey is 1,213 kilometers and the construction of 4,000 kilometers of railway lines continues.

Also, the research work for the construction of additional 5,000 kilometers of railway lines is underway.

The length of the high-speed railway line will be increased to 10,000 kilometers within Turkey until 2023.

The first railway was built in Turkey’s western province of Izmir in 1860 and its length was 357 kilometers.
