Over 15 high-speed railway lines to be built in Turkey

It is planned to build 16 high-speed railway lines in Turkey, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Ministry.

According to the ministry, these projects will be implemented both in Istanbul and the country's provinces.

The ministry also noted that four high-speed railways are currently under construction, with a total length of 624 kilometers, between Ankara and Izmir province. The construction will be completed in 2023.

The construction of the high-speed railway between Ankara and Sivas province will be completed in 2020, and the high-speed railway between the Bursa and Bilecik provinces will be ready in 2021.

According to the ministry, the construction of a high-speed railway between Konya and Karaman provinces will be completed in the first months of 2020.

Presently, the length of high-speed railway lines in Turkey is 1,213 kilometers and construction of 4,000 kilometers of railways is underway. Research is also being conducted for the construction of additional 5,000 kilometers of railway lines.

Turkey’s first railway was built in Izmir province in 1860. Its length was 357 kilometers.
