Renault ahead of Peugeot, Fiat in sales on Turkey's car market

Renault ranked ahead of Fiat in the Turkish car market in sales for May 2020, Trend reports on July 1 referring to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

Renault held 19.1 percent of the Turkish car market, followed by Peugeot – 15.2 percent, Opel – 9 percent, Fiat – 9 percent, Citroen – 6.3 percent, Volkswagen – 5.3 percent, Skoda and Ford – 2.8 percent, and Nissan – 1.2 percent.

The remaining 32.1 percent accounted for other cars.

The number of vehicles used in Turkey increased by 29.6 percent in May 2020 compared to May 2019 and amounted to 52,080 cars.

The share of cars in the total number of vehicles in Turkey made up 43.7 percent, vans and trucks – 8.8 percent, motorcycles – 37.4 percent, and tractors – 7.4 percent. The remaining 2.7 percent accounted for other vehicles.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in car production. Ford, Fiat, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN are assembled in Turkey. Turkey also manufactures local brands of buses such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.
