Ransom requested for Turkish engineers kidnapped in Nigeria

( С ) - The kidnappers of two Turkish engineers contacted the Turkish Embassy in Abuja and Italian firm Merpa and requested ransom.

Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) requested the ransom on Sunday, April 8, and the results of the negotiations have not been revealed yet. The Nigerian police is reported to be in close cooperation with the Turkish officials.

On April 7, the Italian Merpa company announced that two engineers of Turkish origin were kidnapped in Port Harcourt on Friday, April 6.

The armed groups in the region often use this method to take ransom from the firms working on the oil pipeline in the country.
