Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 May / Trend, H. Valiyev /

Azerbaijan and Iran have reached a preliminary agreement on the coordination of broadcasting and satellite frequencies, senior engineer of the State Administration of Radio Frequencies of Azerbaijan Ilham Efendiyev told Trend on Friday.

According to him, the issue was discussed at the meeting on the harmonization of the use of radio frequencies and GSM-range communications in border areas, which was held on May 20-22 in Tehran.

Efendiev said it is required to determine the area in which coordination will be carried out, a topic that is currently subject to negotiation.

"Under current regulations, the activities of all the stations installed in the country (TV, radio, satellite stations, etc.) and registered in the database of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) should be coordinated with the stations of the neighboring countries to avoid any possible interference. Each country has its own procedures for this process," Effendiyev said.

So far, broadcasting and satellite frequencies have been coordinated with Russia and Georgia.
