Trend:

The conflicts in Ukraine and Nagorno-Karabakh can be resolved only by peaceful political means, CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha said in an interview with Vesti 24 TV channel, Russian Newspaper reported.

Bordyuzha said that Ukraine was offered many times to join the CSTO.

"The organization is still ready to cooperate with Kiev," he said. "In particular, the country was invited to cooperate in the field of information security, countering drug trafficking."

"If Ukraine wants to join the CSTO, we will work together," he said. "Otherwise, we have a lot of issues and we successfully solve them."

Bordyuzha also spoke about the plans of the organization.

"The key problem for everyone is information security," he said. "A coordination center on cyber incidents will be established in the CSTO."

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
