Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian armed forces violated the ceasefire 66 times on various parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry told Trend on Apr. 29.
The Armenians stationed on nameless heights in Krasnoselsk district of Armenia opened fire at Azerbaijani positions located on nameless heights in the Gadabay district of Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani military also came under fire from Armenians stationed near Talish, Gulustan villages of Goranboy district, Chilaburt, Goyarkh, Chayli villages of Tartar district, Shuraabad, Shikhlar, Javakhirli, Sarijali, Yusifjanli villages of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages of Fizuli district and Mehdili village of the Jabrail district.
Aside from that, Armenians were firing from the positions on nameless heights of the Goranboy, Khojavand, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.
The opposing side was silenced with return fire.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
