A passenger aircraft crashed in residential Tehransar area near the Mehrabad airport in Tehran, Tasnim News reported.
The representative of Iran's airline press-service confirmed AN-140 aircraft crash.
A pilot was a Ukrainian citizen.
The aircraft was flying to Tabas town.
While taking off, the aircraft crashed.
The Iran-140 (AN-140) aircraft was owned by Sepahan airline.
According to the preliminary information, there were 50 people on board, Fars reported.
The flight number was 5915.
The aircraft took off at 9:18 from the Mehrabad airport towards Tabas town and crashed at 9:45.
Representative of Iran's Red Crescent Society Hussein Derahshan said that 5 passengers were injured, the rest died.
A representative of Iran's airline press-service told Irna agency that there were about 48 passengers on board. Some 40 people died, including 8 children.
There were 8 crew members and 40 passengers on board, including three children. Three children were under 12 years old, director of the airport company, Director of Iran's Airports Company, subsidiary of Iran's Road and Urban ministry, Mohammad Ali Ilkhani said.
Several injured passengers were taken to the hospital.
"Some 35 corpses were taken from the aircraft," Derahshan added. "Six severely injured people were taken to the hospital. One person died in the hospital."
He added that besides passengers, local people were among the injured. The crisis headquarters was created to investigate this incident.
Flight recorders were found to investigate the incident.
