Defamation campaigns against Azerbaijan to be ineffective – top official

Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr.16

By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:

Situation of human rights, democracy, freedom of expression, information, assembly in Azerbaijan is not inferior to the situation in any other country, Ali Hasanov, Azerbaijani presidential aide for public and political affairs told reporters Apr.16.

The top official was commenting on the defamation campaigns against Azerbaijan on the eve of the First European Games.

He said that today, anti-Islamic, anti-Turkish trends, the policy of double standards predominate in the West, adding that all this is openly manifested in the activities of the European politicians, international structures and some human rights organizations as well.

"These trends are particularly evident with regard to Azerbaijan and Turkey," Hasanov said. "We think the Azerbaijani society is well aware of what is going on. People understand that the opinion that is attempted to be formed on our country is groundless."

This is aimed at belittling the country's success, Hasanov said, expressing hope that such attempts will not bring any results. He said Azerbaijan knows the truth and has sufficient opportunities to convey this truth to the international community.

Azerbaijan has come a successful way of development over 20 years in front of the world, Hasanov said, adding that Azerbaijan's contribution to the world culture, policy, economy is evident and no one can deny that.

Meanwhile, no one can impute non-existing flaws to Azerbaijan, he said, adding that all rights and freedoms have been ensured in Azerbaijan.
