SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS TO TAKE OFFICE EARLY 2006

Ramiz Rizayev, the chairman of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, appreciated the process of exams, attributing as the first proper one in Azerbaijan.

“In 2000 the judges passed test exams, while this time it was more improve and progressive.

For the time the applicants selected 100 from 1000 question through lototron in presence of international and local observers, representatives from the non-governmental organizations, and journalists,” Rizayev emphasized. He noted that 100 candidates will qualified for the next stages.

“It was the first stage, while the candidates should pass several stages more, including written exam, conduct of courses and exams to be passed after the courses.

The applicants successful in all stages will be issued a status of judge. They will take the office early 2006,” Rizayev said.

According to Rizayev, the candidates showing successful results in the exams will be elected to the post of judges for a test period.

The activities of the judges currently serving in the courts will be investigated. The judges with 10-15-year experience will be elected on no-term basis.

“Obviously, their activities will also be investigated. Any mistake revealed in judges’ activities can be a reason for quit,” he underlined. The candidates, who successfully the exams, will replace the discharged judges, he added.
