AZERI FM RECEIVES HEAD OF OSCE/ODIHR OBSERVER MISSION

Elmar Mammadyarov, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, received the head of the OSCE/ODIHR Elections Observation Mission (EOM) in Azerbaijan, Ambassador Girt Arens, the Foreign Ministry announced.

The meeting focused on the preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary elections in the country.

Mammadyarov said that the Central Elections Commission (CEC) registered over 2000 candidates to MP to ensure democratic and transparent conduct of elections and prevention of falsification of elections, improved elections lists and voter cards.

Mammadyraov underlined that equal terms were offered all candidates irrespective on their political orientation.

In his turn the head of the EOM appreciated the presidential decree dated 11 May 2005 on the improvement of the elections practice in Azerbaijan, as well as the registration of candidates to MP. Ambassador Arens noted big improvements in the covering the propaganda campaign of candidates in the media.

The sides also touched upon the provision of freedom of assembly in Azerbaijan.
