Each citizen of Iran’s capital consumes 221 liters of water per day

Each Tehran citizen consumed 221 liters of water per day during the week that started on Feb. 26.

Some 2.658 million liters of drinking water was consumed per day in the city of Tehran by residential, administrative, and commercial units, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported on March 15.

Water consumption in Tehran province totaled 18.6 million liters during the mentioned week. Considering 12.5 million population in Tehran province, each Tehran citizen consumed 221 liters of water per day.

Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri urged for conservation measures to avoid water shortage in the capital city of Tehran.

Tehran's water is mainly supplied from five key dams, Amirkabir, Letian, Taleqan, Lar and Mamlou as well as nearly 414 deep wells across the metropolis.

According to the Geological Survey of Iran, low precipitation, improper consumption, population growth and urban development are the major causes of water shortage in the capital city.
