Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, May 27
By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

A meeting with adviser to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Viktor Maiko has been held at Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry, the message from Turkmen government said May 27.

Maiko has arrived in Ashgabat for a working visit.

During the talks, the sides discussed the issues related to the organization of Ukrainian president's official visit to Turkmenistan in 2015.

Moreover, they discussed the issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Ukraine in political, trade and economic spheres.

Talking about the trade and economic sphere, the sides praised the role of Turkmen-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission on economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation. It is planned to hold the fourth meeting of this commission in Ashgabat.

The sides also discussed the process of implementation of the current joint projects and the possibilities of implementing new ones, said the message.

At the end of the meeting, the sides emphasized the importance of continuing the achieved mutually beneficial dialogue for the further diversification of the fruitful cooperation that meets the mutual interests.

When receiving the high level delegation from Ashgabat in late March, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expressed interest in the diversification of gas supply by using Turkmenistan's natural resources as well, Ukrainian presidency said.

"Ukraine is ready and interested in resuming the supply of Turkmen gas as alternative source," said Poroshenko.

Currently, Turkmen gas has an access to Ukrainian market only through Russian pipelines: Ashgabat hasn't delivered fuel to Kiev on direct agreements since early 2006.

Nevertheless, in early 2013, Ukrainian leadership said that the two countries have every opportunity to unite efforts to develop alternative gas supply routes both for the own demand and for the subsequent export to Europe.

Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint-stock company and Turkmengaz signed a memorandum on February13, 2013 to supply Turkmen gas to Ukraine.
