Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) will participate in exploring rare earth metals in Kazakhstan, the country's Ministry of Investments and Development said.

The exploration work at Kyzemshek (Karaganda province) and Zhanaarkalyk (Kostanay province) deposits of rare earth metals will start in spring of 2016 jointly with Kazakhstan's Kazgeology national geological exploration company.

The cooperation on the geological exploration was discussed during the meeting between Kazakhstan's Minister for Investments and Development Asset Issekeshev and JOGMEG management.

The sides also agreed to consider the possibility of implementing joint projects on processing rare earth metals in Kazakhstan. An additional meeting at the company level will be held for more substantive discussions on this issue, after which a working group will be created.

Following the meeting, it is planned to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Kazgeology and JOGMEG in the sphere of mineral resources.
