Rouhani calls to boost Iran - Kazakhstan relations

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Tehran and Astana should accelerate activities for developing economic cooperation.

Rouhani made the remarks Nov. 25 during the meeting with Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov, IRNA news agency reported.

"Launching Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan railway has not only connected Central Asia to Persian Gulf and China, but also strengthened cordial relations between Tehran and Astana," Rouhani said.

Idrissov also said thta Kazakhstan is to expand cooperation with regional countries, Iran in particular.

He also informed Iranian president about his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev's visit to Tehran in the near future.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, Iran's minister of Industries, Mines and Trade said Nov.24 Iran and Kazakhstan aim to broaden the economic ties.

Nematzadeh expressed hope that a new chapter of mutual cooperation on economy, trade and industry sectors will be opened. Iranian minister further referred to expansion of railways, air and shipping lines as well as joint investments in agriculture sector as fields for cooperation.

He also suggested that the merchants, tradesmen and investors from the two countries should be familiarized with the capacities and potential of the other side.

Data released by Iran's Customs Administration shows during last Iranian fiscal year (ended on March 21) Iran exported $205.11 million worth of non-oil goods to Kazakhstan while imported $175.95 million of the same.
