Kazakhstan Railways to up China-EU container traffic

Kazakhstan Railways (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy) plans to up container traffic from China to the EU to 230,000 twenty-foot equivalent units in 2017

Kazakh Railways (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy) plans to up container traffic from China to the EU to 230,000 twenty-foot equivalent units in 2017, the company said in a message released after a meeting of the Board of Directors Feb. 10.

The figure is 2.2 times more than the container traffic via the same route in 2016.

Moreover, the company expects to increase the passenger traffic in 2017 thanks to the launch of new routes.
The Board of Directors meeting also approved the company’s 2017-2021 Development Plan.
The plan envisages increasing the company’s net income to 29 billion tenges in 2017. The operating profit is expected to rise to 127 billion tenges in 2017.

According to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy’s data, the company’s net income hit 28 billion tenges, while operating profit exceeded 90 billion tenges in 2016.

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is the operator of Kazakhstan’s main railway network which implements passenger and cargo transportation. It is wholly owned by the state through national wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna.
