The Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation first came out with an initiative on opening of a new air flight and extension of existing air flight Baku-Sharm-al-Sheikh. In particular,

Egypt proposed AZAL to extend the Baku-Sharm-al-Sheikh flight to Cairo taking into consideration strong need for it and to open new flights to other big cities of Egypt.

The embassy assured that the prolongation of the existing flight to Cairo will resolve the problem linked with export of Egyptian goods to Azerbaijan from different countries and establish favorable terms for businessmen of the two countries.

The extension of the route will also promote increase of goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Egypt, which comprised roughly $1.2m in 2004.

At present experts of the two countries are considering a mechanism of proposals. The issues will be discussed at an intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.
