UAE ready to implement new fuel-energy complex projects in Turkmenistan

Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedow met with Energy Minister of UAE Mohammed bin Dhaen Al Hamili, the Altin Asir national TV channel reported on Wednesday.

The parties discussed prospects of cooperation in energy field.

According to the information, the UAE energy minister particularly 'confirmed aspiration of leading UAE companies to long term partnership with Turkmenistan and participation in a new promising project in the oil and gas field'.

The Turkmen leader noted at the meeting that 'By implementing the strategy of modernisation and complex development of a national fuel-energy complex, Turkmenistan is oriented towards involvement of innovative technologies in the extraction and processing of hydrocarbon raw material and formation of appropriate modern infrastructure'.

According to Bedimuhamedow, there is a favourable background for the development of cooperation. Participation of the UAE in the implementation of the project on the industrial development of the huge Galkhinish gas field can be given as an example.

At this stage, UAE companies are mostly involved in the oil and gas field. Dragon Oil is working within the production and distribution agreement in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.

Petrofac has signed a major contract on maintenance services on the development of Galkinish, the largest gas field in the Mari region. In addition, the Mubadala company is currently holding negotiations on prospects of cooperation over the Caspian Sea.

Both countries are cooperating in the fields of investments, town planning and trade. The projects in the field of communication are being developed, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), one of the world's major mobile operators from the UAE with over 100 million telephone subscribers, is particularly considering the local market
