Iran currently distributes diesel oil conforming to Euro-4 standard in Tehran, Karaj, and Arak cities in order to decrease the air pollution of the mentioned cities.

Abbas Kazemi, managing director of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), said on July 22 that distribution of Euro-4 diesel oil will also start in Mash'had city in the near future, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported.

"Currently Arak's Shazand refinery daily produces 12 million liters of Euro-4 diesel oil," he said, adding that the Tehran refinery also has the capacity to daily produce 12 million liters of diesel oil conforming to Euro-5 standard.

In order to decrease air pollution in major cities, Iran has turned to gasoline and diesel oil conforming to Euro-4 standard. Currently, Iran daily distributes 28 million liters of Euro-4 gasoline across the country.

Kazemi said on July 5 that the figure accounts for 40 percent of Iran's total gasoline consumption. He put the country's total consumption at 71 million liters per day.

"Each day some 16 million liters of gasoline conforming to Euro-4 standard is being produced in Shazand oil refinery, and another 2 million in Tabriz refinery," he explained. "We also import 10 million liters of gasoline conforming to Euro-4 standard."

It was announced on June 9 that Iran plans to distribute gasoline conforming to Euro-4 standard in 8 major cities by December.

The country currently distributes only Euro-4 gasoline in Tehran, Arak, and Karaj, Iran's IRIB News Agency reported on June 9.t

He went on to note that five cities will be added to the list of Euro-4 gasoline cities by December.
