$ 2.7 million allocated on the basis of the grant agreement between the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the Government of Georgia to finance the second program.
Georgia has already opened Millennium Challenge Account - Georgia (MCA-Georgia), to ensure the administration of the grant and the issues related to the finalization of the project in the coming months. The Georgian government appointed Nikoloz Gilauri as MCA-Georgia head, who had worked in that position in the first program of Millennium Challenge Corporation from April 2006 to April 2011.
Grant needed for the development of this program is the result of successful implementation of the first grant agreement between Georgia and the MCC, which has assisted in the development of agriculture and tourism as well as the development of medium-sized businesses.
According to the U.S. ambassador, John Bass, MCA-Georgia account opening is another step forward in achieving a final agreement with the MCC. "First program was the successful demonstration of what two countries together can achieve. I am pleased that the Georgia-US cooperation in this important aspect is ongoing", - said ambassador.
The grant will be used to organize various programs that will promote the growth of general education, explore the labor market, will analyze the social and gender factors that are associated with the availability of education and work. These activities will facilitate greater development of strategic sectors of education to improve the welfare of the population.
Members of the MCA-Georgia will be the ministers of finance, education, and will be selected by two representatives of the private sector and civil society.
