Changes made to structure of Azerbaijani banks with foreign participation

Five banks with 100 per cent foreign capital account for 56.3 per cent of the capital of all banks with foreign participation operating in Azerbaijan, a report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) on financial stability on the results of 2012 said.

Five banks with 100 per cent foreign capital account for 56.3 per cent of the capital of all banks with foreign participation operating in Azerbaijan, a report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) on financial stability on the results of 2012 said.

By the end of 2011, this figure was at 54.2 per cent, in 2010 - 49 per cent and in 2009 - 45.5 per cent.

In general, today the country has 22 banks with foreign capital. Some 8.2 per cent of the capital of these banks is provided by seven banks where the equity participation of foreign capital stands at 10 per cent.

A year earlier, seven banks with the same equity interest in the capital provided 7.5 per cent of the authorised capital of banks with foreign participation. In 2010, five banks accounted for 8.4 per cent and in 2009, six banks accounted for 10.3 per cent.

One bank with foreign equity participation at the level of 10 to 20 per cent accounts for 0.7 per cent of capital. One bank operated in 2011 with the same equity participation which provided up to 2.2 per cent of the total authorised capital. In 2010, the two banks provided 2.6 per cent and in 2009 it was 2.7 per cent.

Last year, six banks with foreign equity participation at the level of 20 to 50 per cent accounted for 21 per cent of the capital. In 2011, five banks accounted for 13.5 per cent, in 2010, six banks accounted for 17.9 per cent and in 2009 it was 16.8 per cent.

In 2012, there were three banks in the country with foreign equity participation from 50 to 100 per cent accounting for 13.8 per cent of the share capital of banks with foreign participation. In 2011, there were five banks (22.6 per cent), in 2010 - four banks (22.1 per cent) and in 2009 - four banks (24.7 per cent).

There are 43 banks in Azerbaijan.
