Some 9,510 cars worth $79.86 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in January-March, 2014, according to a report from the Georgian National Statistics Office (GruzStat).

Throughout this period the specific weight of commodities belonging to this category stood at 54.82 percent within the total volume of Georgian exports to Azerbaijan, GruzStat said.

As compared with the same period of last year, the exports of cars from Georgia fell to 4.73 percent or to 230. By comparison, about 9,280 cars worth $83.81 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2013.

A decrease in car supplies to Azerbaijan is due to the country's transition to the environmental standard of Euro-4. Implementation of this standard started from April 1, 2014. Introduction of the Euro-4 significantly restricts the imports of used cars which constitute a large part of car imports from Georgia to Azerbaijan.

During the reporting period, some 1,200 trucks worth $7.49 million were exported to Azerbaijan. This figure is 28.69 percent or 0.420 cars more than in January-March, 2013.

For comparison, 780 trucks worth $5.82 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2013.

Cars are delivered to Georgia from abroad.

Goods worth $145.68 million were exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in January-March, 2014. This figure constitutes 20.9 percent of total exports made by the country during the reporting period. Exports to Azerbaijan increased by 1.48 percent compared to the same period of 2013. For a comparison, Azerbaijan exported Georgian goods worth $143.55 million in Jan.-March 2013.
