In first quarter SOCAR sells 68.5 percent of gas volume sold in 2010

SOCAR Georgia Gas, a subsidiary of SOCAR Energy Georgia, sold 173.55 million cubic meters of gas in the Georgian market within its distributional activity in January-March, a source in SOCAR Energy Georgia, which represents SOCAR's interests in Georgia, said.
He said that last year SOCAR Georgia Gas sold 253.15 million cubic meters of gas in the market of Georgia, compared to more than 178 million cubic meters in 2009.

The volume of SOCAR Georgia Gas payments to Georgia's State Budget amounted to $13.4 million (about 22 million lari) in 2008-2010, the source said.

Azerbaijan and Georgia signed an agreement in November 2008 to create the possibility of intensifying SOCAR's activity on the Georgian gas market over the five years after 2009. According to the memorandum, SOCAR created the subsidiary SOCAR Georgia Gas to realize the project. It provides some groups consumer gas (social groups) determined by the Georgian government.

SOCAR and the Georgian government signed an agreement to transfer 30 gas distribution networks covering different regions in Georgia in late December 2008.
