Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Aug. 6 / Trend, H. Hasanov/

The first cubic meters of natural gas produced from the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea entered the gas transportation system, which allows carry out exports, the national television station of "Altyn Asyr" said Saturday.

This is stated in the report of the State Agency for Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources under the President of Turkmenistan, presented at the government meeting.

It is reported that President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said after presenting the report that "the beginning of commercial production of natural gas on the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea is of great importance not only for the national economy, but also for Turkmenistan's policy of ensuring global energy security and the success of international cooperation".

Export production was made possible by the recent commissioning of several facilities in outskirts of Kiyanly settlement near the Caspian Sea: a gas processing plant and gas terminal, built by the Malaysian Petronas Company.

The investment project for the exploration and development of offshore "Block 1" with the participation of Petronas, which has become the first foreign partner of Turkmenistan in the development of offshore fields of the country, includes the preparation of the Turkmen gas in Kiyanly for the export in volume of up to 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year at the initial stage, and in the future - up to 10 billion cubic meters per year.
