Uzbekistan increases electricity generation by 2.5 percent in Jan.-June

Uzbekistan increased electricity generation by 2.5 percent up to 27.745 billion kWh in January-June 2014 compared to the first half of 2013, a source in the government circles told Trend on July 22.

Electricity generation increased by 3.2 percent up to 54.207 billion kWh in 2013 compared to 2012. The Uzbek power stations provided population and enterprises with 18.537 million Gcal of heat energy (a 2.6 percent decrease).

Currently, there are 45 power stations with a total capacity of about 13,000 MW in the Uzbek power system, including 16 power stations included in Uzbekenergo with a total capacity of 12,040 MW.

Up to 90 percent of the country's entire electricity is generated by 10 thermal power stations of the company with a total capacity of 11.6 million kW.

The rest of the electricity is generated by autonomous thermal power stations of the industrial enterprises and small hydroelectric power stations belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.
