Astana considers Iran as a close political and economic partner, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, RIA Novosti reported.

The relations with this country have been always developed despite various difficulties.
"I worked in a trusting manner with all the presidents of Iran," President Nazarbayev said.

"We met four times with incumbent President Rouhani in 2014. The two countries have great potential for cooperation. Much work is conducted as part of the revival of the Silk Road."

"The railway from Kazakhstan with the way to the Persian Gulf will contribute to the strengthening of economic ties," he said. Our countries established cooperation on the Caspian Sea. So, the issue must be solved."

"Kazakhstan has also made efforts to resolve the issue," the president said. "Perhaps, not all problems have been resolved, but the results give hope for the future."
