Tajikistan supports the abolition of visa regime with Uzbekistan, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon said.

He made the remarks at the meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov, the press service of the president of Tajikistan said in a message.

The official delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Azimov arrived in Tajikistan to participate in the next meeting of the Uzbek-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation.

During the meeting, President Rahmon noted that Tajikistan positively assesses the initiative of the Uzbek side to restore air traffic between the two countries.

He added that Tajikistan supports the further improvement of relations in the issues of restoration of the railway sections, reduction of tariffs for railway transportation, re-establishment of the import and export of electricity, expansion of cooperation in the agricultural sphere, abolition and facilitation of the visa system and settlement of border issues.

The two sides exchanged views on the current situation and prospects for development of bilateral cooperation in spheres of economy, trade, transport and communications, water, energy, culture, protection of the border, as well as made constructive proposals to eliminate the obstacles to the development of cooperation in these areas.

It was emphasized that the contractual basis of the intergovernmental relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan includes more than a hundred documents.
