Turkmenistan plans to harvest 1.05 million tons of raw cotton this year, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said.

Over 34 percent of the planned volume of the cotton crop has been harvested in the whole country, the newspaper said.

The largest volume of the harvested cotton accounts for Geoktepe etrap (district) of Akhal velayat (region) of Turkmenistan, where more than 62 percent of the crop has already been harvested.

More than 20,000 tons of cotton are harvested every day in Turkmenistan, according to the newspaper.

Some 545,000 hectares of irrigated land have been allotted for cotton in Turkmenistan, where 95 percent is allotted to 12 upland varieties, while 5 percent is allotted to Eloten-14 fine-fiber grade of cotton.

Harvesting of cotton at the same time began Aug. 29 in three regions of Turkmenistan (Akhal, Lebap and Mary). Later, Sept. 6, cotton harvesting began in the Dashoguz region of the country.

Cotton is a weighty part Turkmenistan's export and is in demand as raw material for tens of modern enterprises dynamically developing in the country's textile industry.

Ashgabat annually hosts an international trade fair of cotton products of Turkmenistan.
