The candidates for the presidential election in Turkmenistan have started their pre-election campaigns.
The election is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2017.
The country’s Central Election Committee (CEC) has registered nine candidates who were nominated by political parties and the citizens’ initiative groups.
The country’s incumbent President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was registered as a candidate from the Democratic Party, while Chairman of Rysgal Commercial Bank Bekmyrat Atalyev - as a candidate from the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
Vice-president of the country’s State Food Industry Association Maksat Annanepesov was registered as a candidate from the citizens’ initiative group, while Chairman of Mary Regional Committee of the Agrarian Party Durdygylych Orazov - as a candidate from that party.
